Rules

Welcome to the ultimate DJ app! 😎

With this app you can easily choose your favourite songs. If the other guests agree with you, they can simply like a song and upvote it. Once your song gets more than , it gets played.

No more worrying about whether the DJ plays the right music – you are in control of it yourselves. 🤘

To keep the mood up all night, though, there are a few rules:

1) Every guest can add as many songs to the playlist as they like, but only songs with more than get played. Please don't flood the playlist with hundreds of songs just because it's funny.

2) Requested songs should suit the party and the crowd. Inappropriate or disruptive tracks can be removed by the admin.

3) Everyone has their own taste in music. Show respect to the other guests and to the DJ and let the party decide whether a track goes down well. The app should not be used to annoy or offend other guests.

4) The DJ reserves the right to stop or limit the use of the app at any time in order to protect the spirit of the party and everyone's experience.

The symbols in the table mean the following:

... no like from you
... like
... song chosen by you

We hope you have a brilliant time at the party!

Keep an eye on the mood in the room – can you think of a song that would get people going? Then add it 😜

End session

End your test session now?

If you'd like to finish your 30-minute test early, this is where you close your current DJfy session properly. After that, nobody is steering the test session for your guests any more.

What happens when you log out?

Your current DJfy test session ends and this session's request list won't be kept.

If you test again later, you start fresh with a brand new session.

Before you go: how was your first impression of DJfy?

Maybe we'll see you again at your next party.

Troubleshooting

When the request list no longer plays through cleanly

If Spotify or the queue was changed manually, DJfy can end up waiting for a state that never arrives. `Repair` puts the next song from the voting list back into the queue correctly.

When should you use Repair?

When a song with enough likes is not played, or the order no longer matches the voting list.

DJfy works most reliably when you leave Spotify running during the party and make changes through DJfy itself.

Session setup

Adjust voting rules and genre

Vote limit

Set how many likes a song needs to reach before it moves safely into the active voting zone.

Preferred genre

If you like, you can suggest a genre to your guests so that the search and song choices fit the party better.

We hope you got a good feel for how your guests use DJfy to add songs, vote and help shape the music together.

DJ tips

How to keep your session running smoothly

With these four settings the party keeps flowing, Spotify plays on smoothly and DJfy can respond reliably to what your guests ask for.

Tip 1

Turn on crossfade in Spotify

For a smoother DJ feel, set up a soft transition in Spotify. In practice, 10 seconds usually works best.

  1. Open Spotify and go to `Home`.
  2. Open the `Settings`.
  3. Scroll down to the `Playback` section.
  4. Set `Crossfade` to roughly `10 seconds`.
  5. Turn on `Automix` so transitions sound more musical.
Tip 2

Keep Spotify running as simply as possible

DJfy deliberately works with a limited set of Spotify permissions. That is why the app can only partly recognise manual changes.

Do not skip songs manually in Spotify. Just let playback carry on as normal.

Tip 3

If something gets stuck: use Help first

If the queue stops responding properly, go to the DJ area and use `Help` first, then `Repair`. In most cases that is already enough.

Tip 4

Lower the vote limit for the finale

As the party builds towards its peak, you can lower the vote limit under `Config`. A lower limit makes the request list far more dynamic.

Direct control

Start the next song right away

This button plays the next song from the voting list straight away. If no suitable track is available there, Spotify takes over with the next song from your normal playback.

Before you skip ahead!

The current song is skipped immediately. Only use this when it really makes musical sense, or when you deliberately want to move the party into its next moment.

How To

How to test DJfy, step by step

This guide shows you the quickest way through the 30-minute test version, so you can get a realistic feel for the request list, voting and the shared music experience in just a few minutes.

Step 1

Connect Spotify

The DJ area is meant for the host. Connect your Spotify Premium account first – that starts the test session and unlocks the guest view at test.djfy.eu.

Guests can only add songs, vote and help shape the music once Spotify is connected.

Step 2

Let Spotify play as normal

Start a playlist in Spotify, or anything else that would suit your party. As long as no song has reached the vote limit, that music just keeps playing.

That's the most realistic way to see how DJfy works alongside Spotify.

Step 3

Try the guest view yourself

Open test.djfy.eu on a second device or in another browser window and add a song. That way you see straight away how requests and votes show up in the session.

Guests don't need a login or Spotify – just the link to the guest view.

Add song

Add song lets you search Spotify directly and drop tracks into your session.

Keep the request list in check

You can remove songs from the request list whenever something doesn't fit the mood or the test.

Vote limit

Under Config you set how many votes a song needs before it counts for the automatic pick.

Preferred genre

Also under Config you can set a preferred genre. That nudges the search roughly towards the kind of party you're throwing.

Help / Repair

If Spotify and the way DJfy handles requests ever get out of step, Help and its repair function put things right.

Barview

The DJfy Barview puts the current song and the top requests up on a big screen or TV.
